Inside a Wood-Wrapped Office | The Summit Estate

The office inside our Summit Estate project is wrapped entirely in wood, from the floor to the ceiling and onto all four walls. See the inspiration behind Shea’s choices and how the design team made the space come to life.
“I love this space so much,” Shea says of the office inside our latest design project, The Summit Estate. “We wrapped the walls, the ceiling, and the floor in wood,” she notes of the bold design decision that defines that room, carrying the wood paneling through the steel frame windows and onto the exterior of the home. “I love the warm effect,” Shea adds.
The wall of built-in cabinetry was painted in a deep charcoal shade (Nightfall by Benjamin Moore). “We wanted it to break up the wood stain but not overtake it, so we kept the back of the built-in wood,” Shea notes. One of the more custom details in the space is the hand-cast bronze drawer pulls. “It’s those little things in these luxury homes that we design that make all of the difference,” Shea says. For the layout, Shea offers a bit of advice of floorplans for offices that need more than one monitor or screen. Create two desk spaces with a swivel chair in between. Position one against a wall with the screen housed there, the other can float in the center of the room. This creates easy access to swivel back and forth and keeps the majority of the room clutter-free.
The other side of the room is all about carving out a cozier space for relaxing. It’s one of “my favorite vignettes in the entire home,” Shea exclaims. The design team picked a plaid fabric to recover a settee for a completely custom look. “It’s adorable and fun and classic,” adds Shea. “I love that you walk into this room and can’t miss it.”
To style out the rest of the space, Shea and the design team commonly interview their design clients to get a feel for their hobbies and interest. Often, in communal spaces, the styling needs to remain more neutral to reflect the entire family, but in some spaces, like this office, there is only one personality to cater to. The client behind this office loved outdoor sports, like skiing and golf, and loved the idea of having more vintage, patinaed pieces to act as art.
