Inside a Bunkroom Made for Childhood Magic

The playful lake house aesthetic in Tahoe Pines.

22 August 2024 –

The bunkroom in our Tahoe Pines project truly captures the magic of a childhood spent at the lake. This thoughtfully designed space combines the functionality of fitting a large family into a vacation house with the playful aesthetic of the kid-centric spaces inside a modern rustic home. Explore the details below.

Our Tahoe Pines project, like the name suggests, is located in Lake Tahoe situated between the mountains and the lake. Shea and the design team drew inspiration from these natural surroundings to give the home an earthy, organic aesthetic. The bunk room, in particular, embodies the lake house vibe, from the collected gallery wall to the blue-toned bathroom cabinetry.

In this space, the bunk beds, ceiling, and trim are painted in Westhighland White by Sherwin-Williams giving the room a bright white finish that feels both cheerful and welcoming. On the walls, the team selected this beautiful Preppy Plaid Wallpaper from Phillip Jeffries. The bunk room also features wood ceiling beams, a cozy daybed nook (and yet another bed if needed!), and functional lockers. “When we were designing this space we had just enough room for a daybed. I love that it adds another place to lounge, but also makes the space look extra charming.”

“The gallery wall adds a lot of personality to the space with collected pieces that speak to our client’s style and the surrounding area.”

“We paid special attention to the details on the stairs, incorporating wood between the bunks. This design element ties into the wood beams on the ceiling. We added a vintage runner to the stairs for more character.”

“I love the cute strip tile detail in this Jack and Jill bathroom.”
