This hardworking space proves that utility and elegance can go hand in hand — and in the McGee Home laundry room, they do so effortlessly. With a palette of soft neutrals, richly textured materials, and custom built-ins designed for everyday life, this space is a masterclass in functional beauty.

The laundry room in The McGee Home is a beautiful reflection of how function and form can come together in the most thoughtful way. Every detail, from the layered materials to the quiet color palette, feels intentionally designed to support both the rhythm of daily life and the home’s signature timeless aesthetic.

Soft, neutral tones form the foundation of the space. The walls are painted in a warm, creamy white that brings a gentle brightness to the room, while the cabinetry adds just enough contrast in a muted, earthy grey. Together, they create a serene and cohesive look — a continuation of the calm, layered palette seen throughout the rest of the home.

Underfoot, tumbled limestone floors add texture and movement, with wide grout lines that highlight the rustic edges of each stone. The flooring grounds the room and brings in a natural, timeworn element that contrasts beautifully with the crisp lines of the cabinetry and shiplap. It’s a material that feels both hardworking and elevated — perfectly suited to the utility of the space.

One of the most thoughtful design features is a row of built-in cubbies, each fitted to house a rolling laundry hamper. It’s a smart and simple solution that brings order to a busy household while maintaining the clean visual language of the room. These built-ins are a perfect example of how good design solves everyday problems without sacrificing beauty.

To balance the closed cabinetry, open shelving was incorporated for visual interest and functionality. It’s a place to display stacked towels, woven baskets, and small essentials — items that add softness and texture while remaining easily accessible. The mix of open and closed storage brings both warmth and versatility to the space.

Lighting choices further elevate the room. A classic linear lantern adds architectural structure and echoes the traditional feel of the home, while an overhead vintage-inspired fixture with a metal cage adds a subtle industrial note. The layered lighting not only provides functionality but also contributes to the room’s overall sense of charm and personality.

Altogether, the laundry room at The McGee Home is a study in elevated utility. It’s a space that feels deeply considered — a neutral, modern farmhouse design that blends practicality with style. From the limestone flooring to the built-in storage and curated lighting, every element contributes to a space that’s as beautiful as it is useful.

Paint Colors

Shea painted the majority of the walls in Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore at 75% strength, and paired it with a soft grey color on the cabinetry called Natural Cream, also by Benjamin Moore.
